The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), officially launched the pilot run of the Love Bus "Libreng Sakay" program in Cebu on Friday, offering free rides to commuters during peak hours.

The free rides are available daily from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., covering the route from Talisay City/Anjo World to South Road Properties/SM Seaside City and vice versa.

First introduced in Metro Manila during the late 1970s and 1980s, the Love Bus is now revived under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to help ease commuting expenses for workers and students. Unlike the original version, which required fares, the newly revamped Love Bus service is completely free.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the program's benefits for daily commuters. "For Cebu alone, a commuter usually spends about P30 one-way or P60 daily. With the Love Bus, that amount is saved, which becomes a huge help, especially for minimum wage earners and students," he said.

The program's annual budget for Cebu's operations is estimated at P125 million, with funds allocated for the entire term of President Marcos' administration.

Following the successful launch in Cebu, the Love Bus will be expanded to Davao City, marking the program's reach beyond Metro Manila.
