Council wants Transport Summit, as CCTO tries new traffic scheme

|August 29, 2025
While the City Council pushes for the convening of a Transportation Summit to address the symptoms of a sick transport system in the city, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is set to conduct a dry run on the proposed new city traffic scheme at the Sto. Tomas Quadrangle in Barangay Pardo today (August 29).
-
The new traffic scheme is designed to ease congestion and improve pedestrian safety in city streets. Its reconfiguration introduces a series of one-way loops across key streets surrounding the Sto. Tomas Parish Church.
According to the CCTO, the adjustments are designed to streamline vehicular flow and reduce bottlenecks in the area, which has long been a hotspot for traffic buildup during peak hours and religious gatherings.
Under the new scheme, the Church Loop will operate as a one-way route starting from the corner of N. Bacalso Avenue and Dela Victoria Street, passing through E. Sabellano Street, and continuing up to Aznar Road.
The Araw Loop will follow a one-way direction from N. Bacalso Avenue and I. Tabura Street up to E. Sabellano Street.
On the other hand, the Fire Loop will be divided into three segments with the first segment running one-way from N. Bacalso Avenue and Dela Victoria Street to Dacalos Street, then to A. Gabuya Street.
The second segment continues one-way from Dacalos Street and A. Gabuya Street back to N. Bacalso Avenue, while the third segment begins at N. Bacalso Avenue and J. Tabura Street, and proceeds to Dacalos Street.

Too much politics, too weak economy
Even during the height of disasters and calamities, the Pinoys talk about politics. The problem with the Philippines is that Filipinos eat politics for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner. I lived in Malaysia, Kuwait, and Taiwan as a labor diplomat for a total of nine years. I witnessed how Malaysians, Kuwaitis, and Taiwanese focused on economic development and left politics to the politicians.
