City boosts food security with agriculture initiatives

The Cebu City Agriculture Department (CAD) has rolled out a series of initiatives in upland and urban barangays, distributing seedlings, fingerlings, farm inputs, and financial assistance to hundreds of beneficiaries to strengthen food security and uplift local farming communities.

City Agriculturist Joey Baclayon, with the support of Mayor Nestor D. Archival Sr., highlighted the city's commitment to sustainable agriculture, urban gardening, and livelihood development.
During the “Cebu City Cares: One-Stop-Shop Caravan of Services” in Barangay T. Padilla, CAD staff handed out 300 vegetable and herbal seedlings to residents.
The department said the effort aims to encourage urban gardening even in limited household spaces.
"This is one way to empower families to grow their own food and appreciate the value of sustainable practices," said Elyn L. Burlaos, a registered agriculturist.
