Bacayan-Talamban bridge “not safe”

The Bacayan-Talamban bridge is structurally compromised, said Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, who added that if left unattended, the city’s daily garbage operations --amounting to moving 600 metric tons-- could grind to a halt.

In a press briefing held at City Hall yesterday, Archival sounded the alarm over the bridge, which serves as the main artery for garbage trucks heading to the landfill in Barangay Binaliw and for residents accessing hospitals and subdivisions in the north, has become unstable.

“Nabilikil na ang bridge. Naa'y gamay nga deviation, mouyog na. I'm afraid nga if di ni maatiman, dili nato mapada ang basura didto,” he said, referring to the mounting debris beneath the bridge that threatens its structural integrity due to the massive flooding from typhoon Tino recently.
