Archival reaffirms sound relationship with Osmeña

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has brushed off speculation of a falling out with his running mate and political ally, Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña, saying their relationship remains intact even as the latter has taken his legal battle against the Carbon Market redevelopment to the Supreme Court.

Archival, in an interview, just laughed off his inclusion as a respondent in Osmeña's petition, remarking, "Gi-apil ko kay ako may mayor."

Last month, Osmeña filed a petition for review on certiorari before the Supreme Court after the Regional Trial Court of Cebu City dismissed his earlier petition on procedural grounds.

The filing asks the high court to stop the ongoing redevelopment of the Carbon Public Market, arguing that the Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) between the Cebu City Government and Megawide's subsidiary, Cebu2World Development, Inc. (C2W), is grossly disadvantageous to the city and violates the law.

The Carbon Market redevelopment was formalized in January 2021 through a 50-year JVA between the Cebu City Government and Megawide Construction Corp., with C2W designated as the project proponent.
