AMID TINO RECOVERY LGUs told to brace for potential super typhoon

As the country continues to recover from the devastation brought by Typhoon Tino, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has called on all local government units (LGUs) to prepare for another possible weather threat, a tropical depression that may intensify into a super typhoon.

This call stems from the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as the potential super typhoon, to be named “Uwan,” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this week.

Based on the latest weather advisory, the tropical depression could strengthen into a super typhoon capable of bringing Wind Signal No. 5 conditions over Northern and Central Luzon this weekend. It is expected to bring life-threatening winds, torrential rains, and possible storm surges along its path.

“We cannot be caught off guard. LGUs must take all precautionary steps now, activate disaster councils, prepare evacuation sites, and warn at-risk communities,” the DILG said in a statement.

In line with this, the department directed LGUs to clear waterways and drainage systems, inspect roads and bridges, and ensure that evacuation centers are ready with sufficient supplies such as food, water, and emergency kii.
