Alcover vows to block pickleball court at SRP

SKATEPARK SHOULD COME FIRST Councilor Pastor “Jun” Alcover vowed to block proposals for pickleball courts at the South Road Properties (SRP) unless skateboarders are given priority.

Alcover stressed that skateboarding is an Olympic sport and a way of life for Cebu's youth, unlike pickleball, which he described as a “fad” lifestyle activity.

This comes as a proposal to build pickleball courts at the SRP has surfaced amid continuous calls to realize the long-standing vision of the city's own skatepark.

“Akong istoryahan sila ana nga di ko musugot ana..unless ug dili nila ipahimutang ang skatepark,” said Alcover.

“Ato ng supakon,” he added.

As indicated in the council's agenda, the body is set to discuss the resolution filed by Councilors Harry Erran and Nyza Archival, which requests the Office of the Mayor to direct the appropriate city offices to identify city-owned lots suitable for the conversion into pickleball courts, especially the facility in City di Mare and the SRP.
