Mood swings are sudden changes in a person's emotional state—shifting quickly from happiness or calmness to sadness, anger, or anxiety—often without a clear reason, while irritation refers to a tendency to become easily annoyed, impatient, or angry even over small matters; both are closely linked and commonly occur due to factors like stress, lack of sleep, hormonal imbalance, poor diet, or an irregular lifestyle, and if frequent, they can affect daily life, relationships, and overall mental well-being.
