Finally, all accused walk free in Velim church attack case

TRIAL COMES TO AN END AFTER THIRTEEN-AND-HALF YEARS

The sensational 2012 Velim church attack case has finally ended in an acquittal on Thursday as curtains have finally come down on the long-drawn trial spanning over 13-and-half years.

The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sunita Gaunekar on Thursday pronounced the judgement in the open court, acquitting all the accused from the charges, ranging from unlawful assembly, rioting, causing hurt to a government officer on duty et al.

During the pendency of the trial, as many as three persons named as accused in the case expired during the trial, including then Parish Priest of St Xavier’s Church, Velim Fr Romano Gonsalves and Max Colaco.
