Dharavi blaze disrupts trains
The Free Press Journal
|November 23, 2025
Two major fires ripped through slum clusters in Mumbai on Saturday, charring several huts in separate incidents at Dharavi and Borivali West.
Though no casualties were reported, the blaze in Dharavi triggered a shutdown of Harbour line train services between Bandra and Mahim for close to three hours, causing widespread disruption for commuters.
The first blaze erupted around 12.30 pm inside the Navrang Compound on Dharavi's 60-foot road, in shanties located dangerously close to the UP Harbour line tracks. Within minutes, thick columns of smoke towered over the area as the fire spread through makeshift structures packed with plastic scrap and warehouse material. Panic gripped the locality after multiple explosions, believed to be from commercial cylinders stored inside the huts.
