UDF claims CPM-BJP nexus behind police inaction

Kerala's Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan has accused the state police of deliberately failing to arrest BJP leader Printu Mahadevan, who allegedly threatened to shoot Rahul Gandhi, calling the inaction proof of a clandestine nexus between the CPM and BJP in the state.

The United Democratic Front walked out of the state assembly in protest after Speaker A. N. Shamseer denied a motion to adjourn the House for discussing the matter, intensifying the political standoff in Kerala.

Mahadevan's statement, made during a televised debate, included the phrase "must be shot in the chest," triggering outrage from the Congress and opposition ranks. An FIR has now been filed against him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following mounting pressure from the opposition.

Satheesan and other UDF leaders have charged that, despite the grave nature of the threat and the FIR, Mahadevan remains at large because of a collusive arrangement between the ruling CPI-led Left Democratic Front and the BJP in the state.
