The road to a green economy
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|October 11, 2025
In what promises to be a transformative solution to the problem of agricultural stubble burning in several states each winter, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Benga-luru, have signed an MoU to turn waste biomass into green hydrogen.
-
This aligns with India’s quest to become an economy powered in significant measure by green hydrogen, tackling many problems through a single mission, including the massive challenge of biomass waste with climate change implications. With a horizon of 2029-30 to achieve a critical level of implementation, the National Green Hydrogen Mission got an outlay of Rs 17,490 crore, of which pilot projects on low-carbon steel, mobility and shipping sectors were allotted just over Rs 1,000 crore.
