Man attempts self-immolation in Mandya

A 55-year-old farmer from KR Pete taluk attempted self-immolation outside the Mandya Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday morning, allegedly over a longstanding land dispute that had not been resolved by the authorities.

The victim has been identified as Manjegowda, a resident of Moodanahalli village.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 9 AM at the Bhavyavana Park opposite the DC office. In a moment of despair, Manjegowda poured petrol over his body and set himself ablaze.

Eyewitnesses said that local residents and passersby rushed to his rescue, dousing the flames with water before alerting the fire department and police.
