Thenew measures target buses featuring strobe lights, loud sound systems, and jury-rigged cabin lighting, which mimic the atmosphere of a discotheque. These flashy, and often hazardous, modifications have been a growing concern for authorities, particularly following a tragic incident in 2022 that brought the issue to the forefront.

The fatal accident in Vadakanchery, Palakkad, that claimed the lives of nine students from a Kochi school and left several others, including teachers, injured, served as a wake-up call to the state authorities.
