Chaos unfolds as Karur hospital becomes lifeline

Karur’s Government Medical College Hospital has become the centre of a massive life-and-death operation following the stampede at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally led by actor-politician Vijay, which claimed at least 41 lives and injured dozens.
Doctors, nurses and support staff surged into action immediately. Hospital administrators say that nearly 85 physicians reported in within hours of the disaster, and close to 90 percent of non-medical personnel showed up without formal orders.
Staff from Madurai and Tiruchirappalli joined the efforts to boost capacity.
