UPSC rejects state's 'acting DGP' to sidestep its own list

The Union Public Service Commission has reaffirmed its decision on the shortlisted candidates for the post of Director General of Police and Head of Police Force in Tamil Nadu, signalling that no change will be made in response to the state government’s representation.

According to central agency officials, the state’s objections have been formally “disposed of” and the existing panel remains valid.

The state government, represented by Chief Secretary N. Muruganandham, had submitted a written communication outlining its concerns over three names shortlisted by the UPSC. The ministry confirmed that the letter has been processed and the UPSC has maintained its position that the panel submitted earlier remains intact.

The letter of objection reportedly stated that some names “appear to be against the rules”, and pressed for reconsideration. The UPSC’s response, however, reaffirmed that its list conforms to established norms and that the state must proceed with appointment from this list.
