RIA AND ROCKY’S DIWALI ADVENTURE

How pets can stay calm and happy
Ria loved Diwali. She loved her house was decked up with colorful lights and candles. She heard how over the years, the festival had become louder, crackers exploded and the air filled with smoke. Rocky, Ria’s playful dog, didn’t like it at all. His ears would twitch, his eyes would go wide, and sometimes he would hide under the bed.
One particularly loud evening, Rocky began to shiver and hide under the sofa. Seeing this, Ria’s grandfather gently put a hand on her shoulder. “Do you know why the noise feels scarier for Rocky than for us?” he asked.
Ria shook her head.
Grandpa smiled and explained, “Animals hear sounds very differently from humans. People like us can hear up to about 20,000 vibrations every second. That's called 20,000 Hertz or Hz for short. One Hertz means one vibration ina second.”
He picked up a pencil and tapped it lightly on the table. “Every tap is a vibration. Now imagine 20,000 of those every second!”
Ria’s eyes widened.
