An important inter-agency meeting, chaired on Wednesday afternoon at the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) Akurdi office, focused on reducing the rise in road accidents in the IT belt of Hinjawadi and Wakad, where 39 deaths have occurred this year.
PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase assured that road repairs would be undertaken immediately to reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion in the area.
The meeting brought together PMRDA department heads and senior officials from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, Revenue Department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other agencies, along with representatives of residents’ and employees’ groups.
Mhase issued a stringent directive instructing all agencies to ensure pothole-free roads under their jurisdiction by Dec 5. Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad announced a policy of strict accountability, saying a criminal case would be registered against officials and employees responsible for any fatality caused by potholes.
