Leaving the comfort of homes on a cosy Sunday, over 400 citizens participated in the marathon to "save Mumbai's green lungs — the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP)".
-
Waving creative posters along the running route, they reiterated their demand to scrap the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) draft plan prepared by the BMC.
The participants said that “bad air and rising deforestation” nudged them to demand scrapping of the plan.
Environment activists likened the campaign to the 2017 marathon when they had rallied against the denotification of the 33 hectare land from the Non-Development Zone of the Aarey forest, which had triggered the ‘Save Aarey’ movement.
