Kannada actor Rishi feels it is time the film industry of Karnataka pays attention to what the audience is saying. Although nearly 300 Kannada films are being released every year, he pointed out that only a handful manage to make an impact at the box-office. "I think the audience will tell us what to do, what not to do. If one observes just the last 10 years -- the kind of films that have worked and the kind of preferences that the audience has for certain genres -- there's a clear pattern," Rishi told PTI.

Considering Kannada film industry is now being propped up by those who wear many hats -- an actor who turns a director, a director who turns a producer, or even set up OTT platforms for films to be showcased -- Rishi feels that they owe it to themselves to ensure that films work. "It is not an easy industry; it really takes out a lot from you. And when something works, you get necessary energy to go a little further," said Rishi.
