R ackeray’s recent “rasmalai” jibe at Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai fits neatly into the long tradition of abusive, exclusionary politics practised by the Shiv Sena since its birth in 1966.
At its inception, the party popularised slogans like “Hatao Lungi, Bajao Pungi’, built on the claim that expelling migrants from Maharashtra—especially Mumbai—would free jobs for locals. The appeal of such rhetoric faded quickly, but themindset appears unchanged.
