A bomb threat email sent to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday triggered a major security operation at the civic headquarters, forcing authorities to evacuate and thoroughly search the premises before declaring the alert a hoax.

- Ankit Shukla

According to officials, the threatening email was received on the official email account of the mayor's office at 8.21 am. The message claimed that bombs had been planted at the mayor's office in Pune, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Nagpur, and the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in Mumbai.

Office staff noticed the email at around 10.15 am and immediately alerted Shivajinagar police. The police were informed at 10.35 am, following which the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and other emergency agencies were mobilised.
