Waiver for India part of US plan to stabilise global oil prices

US President Donald Trump on Saturday said the United States could consider measures to ease pressure on global oil markets as tensions escalate in West Asia and the Gulf, following Washington's decision to temporarily allow India to purchase Russian oil.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump was asked about US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announcing a temporary relaxation allowing certain Russian oil sales to India. Responding to questions about whether the US might take further steps, including releasing reserves from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), Trump said he would consider such moves if required.
“If there were some, I would do it just to take a little of the pressure off,” Trump said, adding that global oil supplies remain abundant and that market pressures could ease quickly.
The remarks follow Bes-sent's statement that the United States has granted India permission to accept Russian oil temporarily amid the developing security situation in West Asia.
