Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana: How Tiruppur & Coimbatore Can Turn Employment into a Competitive Advantage
The Daily Guardian
|December 15, 2025
Tiruppur and Coimbatore together represent the industrial backbone of Tamil Nadu.
From garments, spinning and processing to engineering and MSMEs, these two clusters employ lakhs of workers and contribute significantly to India's export economy. However, rising labour costs, skill gaps, and the challenge of formalising employment have emerged as major constraints on growth. In this background, the Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) introduced by the Government of India must be viewed not as a welfare initiative, but as a strategic employment and competitiveness reform, especially relevant for manufacturing-driven regions like Tiruppur and Coimbatore.
FROM JOB CREATION TO INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY
Unlike earlier employment schemes, PM-VBRY directly incentivises job creation in the formal sector. The focus is on encouraging industries to expand their workforce while sharing part of the financial burden with the government.
For industries that create new jobs and bring workers under the EPFO framework, the scheme provides:
Direct incentives to first-time formal employees
Monthly financial support to employers for each new worker
