Supreme Court Asks UP Police To Enquire If Ashish Mishra Attempted To Influence Witnesses

The counsel, Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave, appearing for Mishra refuted the allegations and said that the application was "publicity oriented".

The Supreme Court in the case Ashish Mishra Alias Monu v. State of U.P. observed and has asked the Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur (Uttar Pradesh) for conducting a fact-finding enquiry on the allegations that Ashish Mishra attempted to influence the witnesses in the Lakhimpur-Kheri killings case.

The bench comprising of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh was hearing the present matter. The bench in the case observed and has passed the direction wherein the court was hearing an application filed by the family members of the deceased seeking the cancellation of the bail granted to Ashish Mishra alleging that he was trying to influence the witnesses in the case.

The court asked the SP to submit a report to the Court within four weeks.

The counsel appearing for Mishra also asserted that on the relevant day, Mishra was at the Lok Sabha secretariat and there cannot be a bigger proof of the allegations being misplaced.
