The gut microbiome is a complex community of microorganisms residing in our digestive tract and it plays a crucial role in regulating hormones within the body.

ROLE OF GUT IN FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

It is composed of trillions of microorganisms that reside inside the gastrointestinal tract and not only help in metabolizing hormones but also influence their production, thereby affecting overall health and well-being.

The gut plays a key role in digestion, metabolism and immune function.

The intricate connection between gut health and hormonal balance plays a pivotal role in women's reproductive systems. The gut microbiome influences the body's hormonal milieu, including the regulation of estrogen, a key reproductive hormone. Estrogen is crucial for regulating the menstrual cycle and maintaining pregnancy. Gut bacteria produce enzymes called beta-glucuronidase which helps in modulating estrogen levels; affecting fertility and menstrual regularity.
