Photographer Sudhir Kasliwal's State-of-the-Art Darkroom 2.0

Renowned photographer Steve McCurry inaugurated the Darkroom 2.0 of Jaipur-based photographer Sudhir Kasliwal, recently.

A state-of-the-art space for processing and developing film and making prints in the heart of the city, the darkroom is an upgraded version of the photographer's previous one. The event attended by photographers and photography enthusiasts marks a significant milestone in the city's photography scene, celebrating the art of analog photography in the digital age.

Sudhir Kasliwal, a passionate photographer and promoter of analog photography, has been keeping his darkroom alive at home despite the emergence of digital cameras, except for a brief hiatus. His dedication to the craft has inspired a community of young photographers who continue to honor analog photography while also leveraging digital technology to its full potential.

The Darkroom 2.0 is a tribute to Sudhir Kasliwal's hometown Jaipur, which holds a significant place in the advent of photography in India. The city was home to Photukhana, one of the famed 36 karkhane (royal workshops) in Jaipur, where Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, a pioneer of photography, introduced and popularized the art form in the region.
