KOLKATA HORROR REDUX: LAW STUDENT 'GANG-RAPED' ON CAMPUS

This incident comes less than a year after gang-rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital

A first-year student of a law college in south Kolkata was allegedly "gang-raped" inside the institution by an alumnus and two senior students of the institution. All three accused have been arrested and produced before a court which remanded them to police custody for four days.

This incident comes less than one year after the State was rocked by months of protests over the gang-rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a State-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The main accused Manojit Mishra is a former office-bearer of the Trinamool Congress' student wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) at South Calcutta Law College. He had graduated from the college in 2022 but remained a regular visitor to the campus. He is now a practising lawyer in the Alipore court.

Apart from that, he was also appointed to a temporary post in the college on the recommendation of the college's governing body which is filled with Trinamool leaders.

The law student was allegedly raped on Wednesday between 7.30 pm and 8.50 pm. The arrests were carried out on Thursday night.
