Iran's newest wave of unrest is being counted in the usual metrics—street clashes, arrests, internet blackouts.
But its most consequential feature is harder to quantify: women are again at the center of the political challenge, not only as symbols of protest but as organizers, messengers, and targets of state power. The result is a movement where the question of “who controls the public space” has become inseparable from “who controls women’s bodies.”
