India's fish production increased to all-time record of 175.45 lakh tonnes

Minister of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh told Rajya Sabha that annual fish production in the country during the last 5 years has increased from 141.64 lakh tonne during 2019-20 to an all-time record of 175.45 lakh tonne in 2022-23.

He also said that fisheries export has risen from Rs.46662.85 crore in 2019-20 to Rs.60524.89 crore in 2023-24.
In a reply to the questions by Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma, the minister further said that govt efforts under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) have led to creation of direct and indirect employment opportunities to about 58 lakh persons in fishing and aquaculture related activities on account of the fisheries development projects.
