Just 910 girls born per 1,000 boys in 2024
Haryana's sex ratio at birth has plunged to its lowest since 2016, with just 910 girls born per 1,000 boys in 2024, marking a six-point decline from the previous year.
The data by the Haryana Health Department revealed the sex ratio at birth dipped to 910 female births per 1,000 male births in 2024, which is the lowest after 2016 when it stood at 900—underscoring the persistent societal biases against girl children and the failure of legal frameworks to curb female foeticide effectively.
In 2015, Haryana had reported the worst sex ratio with 876 girls born against 1,000 boys. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had chosen Haryana's Panipat to launch Beti Bachao-Beti Padao campaign. But the figures mark slight improvement in the past five months as the state recorded an SRB of just 905 female births per 1,000 male births till October 2024.
