Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday sought stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's apology for "insulting" Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, while police arrested 12 workers of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena for ransacking the venue in Mumbai where Kamra made the 'traitor' jibe.

Fadnavis slams Kamra, says deliberate bid to defame Shinde

A local court later released Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Kanal and 11 others on bail.

Slamming Kamra's remarks against Shinde, Fadnavis asserted that "urban Naxals" and "Left liberals" supporting such acts will be taught a lesson.

"There is freedom to do stand-up comedy, but he cannot speak whatever he wants. The people of Maharashtra have decided who the traitor is. Kunal Kamra should apologise. This will not be tolerated," he asserted.

Fadnavis criticised Kamra's actions as an intentional attempt to defame Shinde, stating, "There is the right to comedy, but if it is being done to defame our Deputy CM Eknath Shinde purposely, it is not right."
