The India International Centre (IIC) is hosting a series of exhibitions that delve into India's rich cultural heritage, focusing on art, manuscripts, and the evolution of Khadi. These exhibitions not only celebrate historical narratives but also provide contemporary perspectives on traditional practices. The events are being held across different venues within the IIC and its affiliated spaces, running through October and November 2024. Below is an overview of the key exhibitions, curated talks, and associated events that form part of this cultural celebration.
Kalpariksha: The Nationalist Movement - Freedom and Identity Curated by Prof. R. Siva Kumar, “Scenes from Santiniketan & Benodebehari's Handscrolls” explores the works of Benodebehari Mukherjee, especially his iconic handscrolls depicting the Santiniketan landscape of the 1920s. The exhibition will be inaugurated by eminent artist Smt. Ira Chaudhuri on 19 October 2024 at 11:30 am at the Kamaladevi Complex Art Gallery. The display, a collaboration with Gallery Rasa, features Benodebehari's earliest known handscroll, a recently discovered 44.6-feet long piece that offers insights into his artistic journey. Alongside this, reproductions from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, and the Victoria & Albert Museum are showcased.
