In the lead up to local panchayat elections in West Bengal, a wave of violent incidents has shaken the state, causing 10 deaths and several injuries

ELECTION VIOLENCE GRIPS WEST BENGAL, SPARKS POLITICAL UPHEAVAL

These violent confrontations primarily involve the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and various opposition factions.

One such incident saw Jiyarul Molla, a 52-year-old TMC worker, shot fatally in South 24 Parganas district on his way home. Molla was closely associated with TMC leader Amarul Laskar and was declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital. Molla's daughter, Manwara, a TMC candidate in the Kathalberia gram panchayat election, attributed her father's death to a power struggle within the party, further claiming he had been threatened by a rival TMC faction. This theory has been supported by an Indian Secular Front (ISF) leader. TMC MLA Saokat Molla has urged for a comprehensive police investigation into Jiyarul Molla's murder.
