Located in the historical and cultural heartland of Rajasthan, Bundi holds a special place, and the pride of this small town is the Taragarh Fort.

Bundi's Crown Jewel: Taragarh Fort and the Eternal Echo of Rajputana

This fort is not just an exceptional example of Rajput architecture but a silent witness to Rajasthan's glorious past, the valor of warriors, and the turbulent history of the region.

Built in the 14th century, this fort is renowned for its mysterious tunnels, water reservoirs, artistic murals, and robust defense structures.

The Fort's Historic Foundation
Taragarh Fort was constructed around 1354 AD by Rao Bar Singh, a ruler from the Chauhan dynasty. At that time, Bundi was part of the larger Mewar kingdom but was ruled by a branch of the Chauhan Rajputs who later established Bundi as an independent princely state.

Perched 1,426 feet above sea level on the rugged Aravalli Hills, the fort commands panoramic views of Bundi and its surrounding valleys, serving as a formidable defensive bastion for centuries.

The fort's grand entrance, known as the Hathi Pol or Elephant Gate, is wide enough to allow elephants to pass through and is richly adorned with intricate carvings typical of Rajput artistry. Crossing this gate transports visitors back in time to an era defined by valor, chivalry, and royal grandeur.

Architectural Marvel and Ingenious Water Management
Inside the fort, visitors encounter a sprawling complex of palaces, bastions, reservoirs, and tunnels.
