BREATHWORK VS MEDITATION: WHICH ONE REDUCES STRESS FASTER?

Breathing technique Breathwork vs Meditation Meditation

WHAT IS BREATHWORK?

Breathwork refers to conscious, controlled patterns of breathing designed to influence the body’s physiological state. Techniques likebox breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, alternate nostril breathing (anulom vilom), and the 4-7-8 methoddirectly engage the autonomic nervous system.

When you take slow, deep breaths, you stimulate the vagus nerve, which lowers heart rate, reduces cortisol (the stress hormone), and activates the relaxation response. This effect is almost instantaneous, which is why breathwork is widely used in therapy, sports, and even the military for rapid stress control.

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation is a mental practice that trains attention and awareness. The most common forms include mindfulness meditation, focused attention meditation, mantra-based meditation, andbody-scan meditation.
