Assam: Coach of World Cup winner Uma Chetry recalls her disciplined approach

Mehboob Alam, the first coach of Assam’s cricket sensation Uma Chetry, expressed heartfelt pride following India’s historic victory in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Speaking exclusively to The Sunday Guardian, Alam said it was amoment of immense pride to see his student as part of the World Cup-winning squad.

“It'sa very proud moment for us. We trained her, and her performance during the World Cup deserves praise. From the very beginning of her training, she was completely dedicated and disciplined, and she always knew how to complete any task. I often told her not to limit herself to the state team but to aim to play for the country,” Alam said.
