Cider farm now entirely powered by renewable energy with no offsetting

A CIDER manufacturer in South East Cornwall is now fossil fuel-free after switching over to heat pumps powered by solar energy.

Cornish Orchards' site in Duloe now runs entirely on renewable energy sources, reducing its future carbon emissions by up to 94%.
The business, now owned by Japanese brand Asahi, has also invested in promoting biodiversity and habitat creation.
"Unlike many brands, Cornish Orchards has refused to use offsetting as a shortcut to claiming carbon reduction", a spokesperson said.
"Sustainability is about far more than carbon. The team are also working to help revive nature by investing in local projects designed to deliver long-term ecosystem value.
"So far on their farm, they've planted four acres of woodland, capturing seven tonnes of CO₂ a year, with another 21 acres planned.
