SA population surges to 63.9m

FIGURES: REPORT CHALLENGES OUTDATED CENSUS

The Bureau of Market Research (BMR) has issued projected figures for the middle of the year for the country to address the uncertainty regarding the true size of the population. The publication includes population projections by province, district municipality, local municipality, main-place and sub-place.

Dr Joshua Kembo, head of the population research division of the BMR, said given that there are questions of the accuracy of available population estimates, detailed population estimates of greatest likelihood were required to provide certainty.
