On the local side, we have had an exciting few weeks, with the rand strengthening and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange breaching 90,000 points for the first time last week.

It is important to know that with change comes volatility—and opportunity—if you look at the bigger picture.

Corrections are sometimes required and can provide an excellent opportunity in the market—essentially, you get to buy the same holding for a lower price.

There is a difference between risk and volatility (or market cycles), which is important to remember when approaching your investment portfolio.
