NEWCASTLE
Eagles let their “standards slide” in the second half of Saturday night's game against Oaklands Wolves as the visitors left Tyneside with the victory. The Eagles lost their second SLB Championship game in a row to an opponent that they have to face again next Saturday in an away SLB Cup quarterfinal.
After the first 20 minutes at the Vertu Arena on Saturday, the Eagles led by 37-28, but at the end of the 40 it was the Wolves who finished up 66-57 winners.
“Frustrated and disappointment is my immediate reaction,’ said Eagles head coach Chloe Gaynor after Oaklands dominated the final two quarters to the tune of 20-38.
“More so for the team and the work that we've put in over the Christmas break. We were looking at this game to reset after the Caledonia loss.’
