Victim, 70, of alleged bus stop attack still in hospital

A 70-YEAR-OLD man seriously injured in an alleged attack near a city bus stop remains in hospital more than three weeks on.

The alleged victim was left in a critical condition following the incident, which happened on Newcastle's Newgate Street, on bank holiday Monday.

However, the Chronicle can now reveal that his condition is no longer described as “critical”. Police say he suffered serious head injuries when he fell to the ground after allegedly being punched in the face.
