Tyne Tunnel toll prices set to rise 10p for cars and 20p for heavier vehicles
The Chronicle

THE cost of driving through the Tyne Tunnel will rise in a few months' time, after a price hike was signed off by council leaders.
Signs at the Tyne Tunnel informing motorists of toll charge
A toll increase of up to 20p will come into force on May 1.
Members of the North East Combined Authority's (NECA) cabinet voted to approved the changes, at a meeting Tuesday. Currently, it costs either £2.50 or £5 to make a single journey through the tunnels depending on the size of your vehicle, with a 10% discount for drivers who use a prepaid account with operator TT2.
But there will soon be a 10p rise taking the Class 2 toll price to £2.60 for cars, vans or buses weighing less than 3.5 tonnes and to £5.20 for “Class 3" - LGVs, HGVs or buses heavier than 3.5 tonnes.
