Ponteland Duck Race

The charity, which provides specialist and adapted equipment to children and families living with disabilities in the North East, has become the new custodian of the Ponteland Duck Race, taking on more than 40 years of history.

Ponteland Rotary Club confirmed the “emotional decision” to close in January, saying it had suffered a decline in membership which made its activities unsustainable.

The Rotary Club organised a number of events in the village in addition to the Duck Race, including the Santa's Sleigh event in December and June’s Party in the Park.

Members had hoped that the closure would not prevent future events going ahead, and the Sunshine Fund has stepped in.
