Region's £30m science and technology boost

THE North East is set to get at least £30m from a new Government fund that aims to boost research into science and technology.
The package for science and technology will be announced in this week's spending review, with regions around the UK handed significant allocations to spend on local priorities, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology said.
The overall package, which has been welcomed by North East mayor Kim McGuinness, will be announced as Chancellor Rachel Reeves sets out departmental spending plans on Wednesday. It is expected to be worth more than £22.5bn-a-year by the end of the decade.
