Mariners guilty of ‘letting the game get away from them’

SOUTH Shields manager Ian Watson felt his side ‘allowed the game to get away from them’ during Saturday's draw at AFC Telford United.

The Mariners could view the draw at New Bucks Head as a missed opportunity as title rivals AFC Fylde fell to a surprise home defeat against Buxton.

Watson's men were unable to take full advantage of that result despite taking the lead with a Cedwyn Scott header with just over five minutes remaining.

However, there was to be a late blow for the Mariners as Jordan Piggott grabbed an equaliser for their hosts with just a minute remaining to ensure the points were shared. Speaking after the game, Watson said: “I thought the two halves were really different in terms of how the game went.
