Four-week closure set for bridge restoration

CONTRACTORS ARE SET TO SWITCH TO WORKING ON THE OPPOSITE TYNE BRIDGE FOOTWAY
RESTORATION work on the Tyne Bridge is continuing, with weekday overnight closures necessary for the installation of new scaffolding set to start next week.
The closures will start next week and continue through November, with contractors set to switch to working on the opposite footway.
Contractors are currently working behind the scaffolding on the west footway, on the bridge's parapet and screen plates, and the overnight closures will allow scaffolding to be put up on the east footway.
Over a four-week period this month, the scaffolding will be installed from the underside of the bridge deck, up the side and over the bridge parapet onto the footway, in order to enable the repairs and repainting works to be carried out next year.
