Fans' backlash over trophy parade plans

NEWCASTLE United have announced their plans to parade the Carabao Cup this weekend - causing something of a backlash among fans.

The club announced that an official celebration will be held on March 29 in the city. Details remain on ice, but there have been suggestions that it will involve a massive gathering at the Town Moor where the trophy will be showcased, rather than an open-top bus tour.

However, the club have since released a statement saying that the cup will be paraded in front of supporters on Sunday during the huge women's derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland.

The game at St James’ Park, which kicks off at 2pm, is already set to smash attendance levels for a Women's Championship fixture with around 30,000 tickets sold.
