‘Big calls’ for Armstrong as Heed eye major upset

ALUN Armstrong is preparing to provide a large dose of disappointment to some of his Gateshead players ahead of their FA Cup first round tie at League One promotion contenders AFC Wimbledon.

The Heed will head to the Cherry Red Records Stadium as underdogs against a Dons side that are sitting in the League One playoff places and are now just three points adrift of leaders Stockport County.

Despite the odds being firmly stacked against them, there is a confidence about Gates-head after they pieced together an improved run of form consisting of just one defeat in six games despite injuries robbing Armstrong of a number of key players.

With some of those player now close to a return, the former Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough striker has admitted he has some major decisions to make over his starting eleven for the first time this season.
