Arrest made in connection with alleged arson attacks

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after three flats were allegedly set alight in Walker.

On Sunday night, emergency services were called to Dean House on Tumulus Avenue after reports of the fires.
Later that evening, a man was reportedly sighted attempting to set fire to several parked cars in the Fossway area.
A 51-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with both reports.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 8.10pm on Sunday (July 6), we were alerted to a fire at Dean House on Tumulus Avenue in Walker, Newcastle.
